Wakefield confirms new chief exec to replace Manchester-bound Roney

WAKEFIELD Council has confirmed Merran McRae as its new chief executive.

McRae, who is currently chief executive of Calderdale Council, will replace Joanne Roney OBE, who is becoming CEO of Manchester City Council.

Prior to joining Calderdale in 2012, McRae was director of wellbeing and communities and director of housing at another Yorkshire authority, Kirklees Council. She also spent six years as chief executive of Aire Valley Homes.

Cllr Peter Box CBE, leader of Wakefield Council, said: "I am pleased that Merran's appointment has been confirmed. I look forward to her bringing her vision, passion and expertise to Wakefield so that we can get on with delivering the best possible services for all our residents."

McRae is expected to take up her new post in the spring.
