Rushmoor chief executive retires after 20 years

RUSHMOOR Borough Council has appointed a new chief executive to replace Andrew Lloyd, who has retired as after more than two decades in the role.

Lloyd, who has spent a total of 28 years at Rushmoor, stepped down on 24 February.

He will be replaced by Paul Shackley, who is currently a corporate director at Wycombe District Council.

Shackley (L) started his career as an air traffic controller for the RAF, before roles with Cheshire Police and as deputy chief executive of Allerdale Borough Council.

He is also a former international swimmer, who has represented England and Great Britain.

Cllr David Clifford, leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, said: "We had an impressive number and high calibre of applicants - in total 32 people applied for the post - which I think reflects the strong reputation that Rushmoor Borough Council has.

"Paul was an extremely strong candidate, with an outstanding background for getting things done, particularly in regeneration, economic growth and commercial services, which are areas of high priority for the cabinet. The recruitment panel agreed unanimously that Paul was the best person for the job, so I am extremely pleased that he has accepted the position and I can't wait to start working with him."

Shackley will join the council in May.
