New joint chief for South Northamptonshire and Cherwell
SOUTH NORTHAMPTONSHIRE and Cherwell district councils have named Yvonne Rees as their preferred candidate to become their new joint chief executive.
Rees is currently chief executive of Mole Valley District Council and strategic director for customers and communities at Surrey County Council, a joint post she has held since September 2012.
She will replace Sue Smith, who announced she would step down as joint chief executive in December.
Cllr Ian McCord, leader of South Northamptonshire District Council, said: "Yvonne exhibits great scope in terms of her experience in local government, in particular with working across two councils, as well as her commercial background.
"We were looking for a candidate that could demonstrate a forward-thinking attitude to how councils should operate. I firmly believe that Yvonne can satisfy the needs and challenges of both councils while delivering on our plans and taking us to the next level."
Cherwell DC leader Cllr Barry Wood added: "I am delighted that Yvonne has been appointed joint chief executive, and trust that she will be a great asset for both councils.
"With her background and expertise, I am certain that she can help us to continue with our successes."
"This is a hugely exciting opportunity for me and one that poses plenty of new challenges which I hope to rise to, bringing a fresh perspective and a wealth of new ideas," Rees said.
Rees will be formally appointed as joint chief executive by Cherwell on 22 March and South Northamptonshire on 23 March. She will take up her new post in the summer.
