London Councils names consultant for collaborative housebuilding body
LONDON Councils has appointed Halliford Associates to drive forward plans for a Collaborative Delivery Vehicle to boost housebuilding across the capital.
The vehicle will help London's local government to pool skills and, where possible, resources to build more homes and maximise delivery.
London Councils, which represents the capital's 32 boroughs and the City, said the demand for homes increases by around 50,000 each year, yet delivery of new homes has averaged only 22,000 for a number of years.
Homelessness is also rising rapidly, with London now accounting for 32 per cent of the homelessness total for England.
"It is vital we help develop new mechanisms to support councils in improving their home building capacity to meet the increasing challenges which lay ahead," said Sir Steve Bullock, London Councils executive member for housing.
"Halliford Associates have great experience in growth, development and regeneration and will be an excellent partner in helping drive forward positive change for communities across London."
